About the Sony BVU-950
The pinnacle model of Sony's broadcast equipment line, the BVU-950 plays high-band, low-band, and SP U-Matic tapes. The machine can accommodate an internal time-base corrector board, with optional external remote control box.

Produced: 1993
Horizontal resolution:
SP mode: 300 lines (color/monochrome)
Conventional mode: 260 lines (color/monochrome)

The BVU-950P incorporates SONY’s Superior Performance (SP) technology, to offer higher picture quality and dubbing capability, while remaining compatible with earlier high-band U-matic. It also features a plug-in-type wide window time base corrector (TBC-6) and time code (TC) generator/reader options (BKU 905) or DNR (BKU 902). Improved audio performance is guaranteed by adoption of Dolby C noise reduction for SP tapes, with auto-detection/activation on playback.

What is the prominent difference between the mechanics of a BVU-950P and a VO-9850P and why is this important?
The BVU-950P uses two reel motors as compared to one. This allows for better control of tape tension and speed.
