Ampeg B15N, 1961,  SN 100334

This amp is in very good working condition with a variety of non-original cosmetic alterations.

This is an early version of the classic B15, and it used a 2 piece baffle arrangement, with 8 vent slots feeding a short labyrinth.  This particular style of baffle was only used for a short time.

The front panel chrome and lettering are in very good condition, and there is normal wear to the chrome in the area between the transformers.  The Ampeg plexiglas is intact, and the knurled chrome nuts, tube screen and chassis bolts are original.

The Handle is not original, and the latches need to be re-adjusted or replaced.  One latch is not original, the other 3 were painted black along with the Blue Tolex.

The cabinet is in very good physical condition, the joints solid and tight.   The speaker mounts have been replaced with 1/4-20 Tee nuts and heavy duty bolts.  (This was done while testing the amp with a JBL E140 installed in place of the CTS driver.)   The original hardware used small 8-32 bolts that were prone to loosening up with use.

Hardware:

The chassis has been completely cleaned, with all front panel washers and nuts removed and replaced with new hardware.  All of the input and output jacks, have been cleaned, and the interior brass grounding plate wire brushed.  The tube sockets have been retensioned as needed.

Original parts:

All of the Pots, Transformers, tube cage, jacks,  and all of the pots bear a CTS 1961 date code.

The 3 6SL7 input tubes maybe original, date code is not apparent but all three bear the Ampeg logo stamp.

THe Grill cloth and grill frames are original.

Mylar coupling caps, all checked with a precision LCR meter are well within tolerance.

Non-Original changes:

Blue check Tolex was painted black by a previous owner in the mid 1990s.  Small (.25x.25”) strips of Aluminum corner angle were added for protection.   The 15” CTS speaker is from 1972, the manufacturer’s cone stamp of 137 7213.

New parts/work:

5U4 Rectifier, output tubes (NOS Sylvania), Electrolytic caps.

Chassis grounded with a 3 pin power cord

1/4-20 T-Nuts installed for speaker mount.

4 pin XLR Speaker connector and Cable replaced

All pots cleaned and treated.

All Jacks and switches cleaned and treated.

Ampeg Plexi plate lights Relamped

Fiber glass added to enclosure.
